The Postal Service - Such Great Heights

On the way up to Santa Barbara this morning, this song came on as part of a CD mix created by Sara. No-one in the car had any idea who the artist or song was and, since Sara wasn't along with us to clue us in, Jacob used an app on his cell phone to obtain the desired info.

How cool is that?!!!

This song gets added to my future iTunes purchases...

Such Great Heights

I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay
True, it may seem like a stretch, but
Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road for
Several weeks of shows and when you scan
The radio, I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great
Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
'come down now,' but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave this all on your
Machine but the persistent beat it sounded
Thin upon listening
That frankly will not fly. you will hear
The shrillest highs and lowest lows with
The windows down when this is guiding you home

  1. based on context, I'm guessing there were at least three people in the car. How do you gather three people with any semblance of pop culture who don't recognize The Postal Service?

  2. Buy the whole album. Like, right now.

  3. Sheryl would argue that she's out of touch with the current music scene--hence Sara's creation of the CDs for her. The song seemed familiar to me (probably was used on Grey's Anatomy or something), but since I've had my iPod I rarely hear new music. (See my "I Hate Music" post...)

As for Jacob--he doesn't need a semblance of pop culture beyond having a really cool cell phone app.

So Sheryl has Sara, Jacob has his cell phone and I have hipper-than-thou baby brother to keep us in line...
